Employment Specialist (back to openings)
The Employment Specialist works directly with clients with mental health disabilities, providing essential support services while facilitating the job search, job placement, and job retention processes aimed at securing and maintaining meaningful employment in the community. Responsible for identifying and developing job opportunities in the community for CVE clients.
Primary Responsibilities:
Payroll
- Maintains caseload of clients, assisting them in building and executing their job search strategy, including defining vocational goals and identifying prospective employment opportunities. 40% of time is spent directly with clients.
- Identifies and develops job opportunities in the community for CVE clients. This may include cold-calling prospects, speaking at public forums and seeking out other ways to find job opportunities for clients in local businesses and corporations. 20% of time is spent doing job development.
- Attends community-based meetings, trainings and job development forums to promote the CVE agency, to advocate on issues that affect our clients, create a strong presence in the community and gather best practices.
- Provides job coaching and retention services for clients
- Educates clients on job search and interviewing techniques as well as implications of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Establishes and maintains partnership with Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) and Community Behavioral Health Services therapists, counselors and case managers.
- Responsible for timely and accurate charting of caseload.
Requirements:
- B.A./B.S. in related field or equivalent experience in workforce or job development
- Ability to build partnerships with employers. Comfortable taking initiative to build new relationship via cold-calling, emailing and attending community forums.
- Ability to work directly with mental health clients, a diverse staff and clientele, including people of various ethnic backgrounds, mental health consumers, and persons of diverse sexual orientation
- Ability to follow directions, prioritize, perform multiple tasks, and complete duties with minimal supervision
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Excellent organization and communication skills
Preferred Qualities:
- Direct experience in employment services as a job developer
- Direct experience with the mental health community
- Experience building relationships with businesses or corporations
Under the guidance of the Client Services Manager, the Occupational Therapist is responsible for participating in pre-employment preparation including Intake and Assessments, and all services pertaining to the Occupational Therapy Department. The Occupational Therapist supervises the Occupational Therapy Interns.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provides occupational therapy assessments, interventions, on-site evaluations, follow-up, one-on-one training and group work for CVE clients
- Responsible for designing OT services and coordinating with CVE team members to ensure that these services adequately meet the needs of CVE clients and programs
- Responsible for the designing and implementing Professional Development Seminars in collaboration with the Intake Coordinator
- Responsible for recruiting OT interns and coordinating with affiliate academic programs to place candidates at CVE
- Responsible for training and overseeing OT interns, including evaluations, documentation, and service planning and program development
- Tracks significant interactions with clients in client database
- Keeps a daily time log of time spent on clients for billing to Department of Rehabilitation and CBHS
- Responsible for accurate timing and charting of caseload
- Reports significant client events on a timely basis at Caseload Meetings to supervisor and/or other staff, and to DOR counselors and mental health service providers
- Commitment to open, direct, and respectful communication. Commitment to the clientele of CVE. Ability to create a welcome environment for clients. Respects client choice. Ability to set and maintain clear boundaries while remaining compassionate.
Requirements:
- Degree in Occupational Therapy
- Must be AOTA registered/certified by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy or be scheduled to take NBCOT exam
- Must be licensed to work in CA
- Must be familiar with SSA entitlement program
- Ability to prioritize, perform multiple tasks, and complete duties with minimal supervision
- Excellent organization and communication skills
- Ability to work with a diverse staff and clientele, including people of various ethnic backgrounds, mental health consumers and persons of diverse sexual orientation
Preferred Qualities:
- Direct experience in the mental health community
- Bilingual skills
- Strong computer skills
- Ability to work with a diverse population
- Supervisory experience
